CANDIDATE STATEMENT
I offer a more diverse and well-rounded professional background which is sorely need on this court. I have spent my professional career preparing to become a judge by helping ordinary people with their extraordinary problems. Before I became an appellate judge my law practice for twenty-five years took me to the trenches of state and federal courts at all levels of the justice system-from small claims court to the Ohio Supreme Court. The late Chief Justice Moyer explained, “The idea of a multiple-judge court certainly is that the process includes people of different backgrounds, different philosophies, different views on issues, and the perception of an all-Republican court is that we don't have that.” I offer the people of Ohio a different background and perspective having represented working families, children at risk, and small business. I recognize the enormous impact court decisions have on people’s lives. I am the only Supreme Court candidate to have received a perfect 4.0, “Excellent” rating from the Judicial Candidates Rating Coalition.
